Happy New Year!
2020 was a difficult year and Between The Hacks wants to congratulate everyone who pulled through the challenges. We have all lived through a year that delivered a global pandemic, civil unrest, and a controversial political divide. The lucky people got to work from home, the unlucky lost their jobs. We had to stay virtually connected with family and friends using tools like Zoom, which was great, then dangerous, then OK?
With so many working from home for the first time, cyberattackers leveraged the topic of COVID-19 as a phishing lure and threat actors targeted the work-from-home employee. Finally, in typical 2020 style, the year ended with the SolarWinds attack which was arguably the most impactful cyber-attack against the west in history.
While 2020 has been a challenge, it has also made us stronger and hopefully wiser. If you work from home now, consider investing in another router or two and implement home network segmentation to separate your home and work networks. And, if you got some fun new IoT devices as a gift over the holidays, home network segmentation will help isolate those IoT devices from the computers and mobile devices where you keep sensitive data.
Whatever your political or religious views, we are all people, trying to make a living and support ourselves and our families. Between The Hacks looks forward to 2021 and wishes you a very happy and healthy new year!
